About those Tab books you find in Music Stores
Hi all,
Just wanted to know about those tab books that you find in music stores, are they written by just someguy/girl, or did the band show someone how to play the song and they produced the book they way the band plays it?
Im talking about books like this:

I might be wrong but I think the companies who make the books, hire people to transcribe the songs.

correct. The tabs, however, at times aren't exact.

Many tabs domestic or imported are only partially right! I find you always have to make additional arrangements and corrections!

Re: About those Tab books you find in Music Stores
This begs the question then, at least in my mind, what companies produce the most accurate tab books? I get most of my tabs from online sites, but I do buy tab books occasionally as well. Is there one or two companies that outshine the others as far as accuracy?

I know Petrucci edited the tab books for Awake and Images and Words. Maybe the others, but I dont have them so I cant say for sure. Atleast the tab books now are better than the sheet music they had back in the day. I remember my teacher telling me how bad they were in the 70s.

Yeah, theyre not made by the band. I have a Smashing Pumpkins book I got a while ago, and half the tabs are wrong.

Re: About those Tab books you find in Music Stores
It's mostly people hired to transcribe for the publishers. But I understand that Petrucci and Vai, if not actually transcribing, do review/edit their tab books.

Re: About those Tab books you find in Music Stores
I thought bands/artists had the chance to OK transcriptions before they were released, I guess that isn't always true.

Re: About those Tab books you find in Music Stores
I'm sure they have the choice to, but how many bands/artists do think actually review a tab book before it's released?
