Any Flamenco Guitarists here?

Hi all,
Title says it all. If there are some I would like to know how did they learn to play flamenco guitar. Did they learn from someone or just did it on their own. If the latter what do they recommend me to do etc.

I recently decided to learn flamenco and I believe Electric and flamenco guitar can go together up to a point. Personally I believe flamenco music is much more expressive, but I totally adore electric guitar. Time will tell, as I said those two can go together up to a point...

And if there are any flamenco artists you really like, I would be glad to see them..

Thanks in advance,
Cheers,
Can

After studying classical guitar I tried to play flamenco, but it just didn't happen for me.

Have you been listening to any flamenco artists? My favorite of all time is Ottmar Leibert. If you haven't already, check out "The Hours Between Night and Day". Awesome recording. It's really "environmental", if that's even a good word for it.

Paco de Lucia is a god, part of the real guitar trio. Also recommend Liona Boyd

The flamenco guitar is very hard, the technique is totally different of the electric!

I played electric for about 8 years before moving onto flamenco. I recommend you get a guitar teacher for it because the body movements and angles at which you hold your hands are far more pedantic than electric guitar, and effect the sound of your playing.

The flamenco album that does it for me is "Fabulous Flamenco!" by Paco Pena (Pena spelt with that squiggly thing onto of the 'n'.)

Re: Any Flamenco Guitarists here?

thanks for the replies. After all that time I thought I wouldn'T get any answers. Anyway, of course, I'll have a teacher. I am aware that it is not easy at all, that it involves some really hard techinques. Actually I know a lot about it, I have been read,ng about it, listening to some flamenco artists.

Actually on sunday night I saw Vicente Amigo here, and he is just awesome. I also had the privilege to meet him after the show, and I couldn't control myself and huged him and kissed him on the cheeks. He is such a nice guy.

I haven't listened to Paco Pena yet, but I plan to. Paco de Lucia: a god. All I need is his original cds. I listened to him but the cds are copied. I find it insulting for the artist so I want to find the original CDs. The only problem is that here in Turkey, flamenco music is not really known, actually some people confuse it with classical guitar. Because of this it is near impossible to find the cds here. Even if you find them they are priced 20 dolars or more.

Thanks to all of you. please keep on posting
Cheers
