Re: Breathing while playing.

Not to get all pretentious on you or anything, but most of the time when I'm playing, I actually find it relaxing and meditative in and of itself...so much so that, often, I find myself in a very nearly trance-like state. I get really wrapped up in what I'm playing, and when I'm done, I feel like I just took a nap. My wife thinks it's scary...she'll walk into my "studio" and watch me sometimes, and I won't even know she's there...my eyes get all glazed over and stuff. I've become aware that when I get in that mode, my breathing is very slow...very even. I'm not like this super-phenomenal player or anything, but it's like I get in a Zen state when I'm really playing intently.

I breathe with the strong beats usually, I learned it after playing for so many years for the philharmonic youth orchestra and for random gigs here and there. It helps a lot

As a guitar players (And, bassists, drummers, keyboard, etc) we need to learn when we play a solo or whatever to breathe with it. Thank means, play something while holding your breath. Then, take a breath without playing something else. See if you can do it.
Here we go, a nice familiar melody,
--------------------------------------12/10----7-----------------------------
--------------10----10/12-------------------------8-----10/12-------------
----------7-------------------------------------------------------------------
------/9----------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
bi bo/bi bo etc.

bi=Breathe In
bo-Breathe Out

Apply that to everything you do, it'll make your phrases better.

Funny, I play that lick a little different.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------10----10/12~-----------17p15--12-----------------
----------7------------------------------------------12----14/16--
------/9-------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Just a different octave, i'm more comfortable playing it this way because when the angry sounding section comes everything is essentially the same but with nice bends and harmonics.
