Thumbs up

CHOP SWAP

I've had an idea for a new thread. Hopefully we can get this one going so well that it gets stickied and we all use it all the time to share.

**********Thread Rules************

1) All chops should be short licks rather than drawn out solo's

2) All chops should be accompanied by a piece of tab and a short Youtube clip of how to do it / what it should sound/look like. Please give examples of how the chops can be used in the context of a lead break.

3) It doesn't matter if the chop is your own ,in the style of or even straight up copied from your favourite player. This is just supposed to be a thread where we can all come and grab a new chop for the weekend.

4) Remember, it's called "Chop Swap" so if you come here and pick up a chop you like then it's cool to put one back down for others to come and get.

*********************************

Ok, I'll go first.

This is a short 3 string sweep lick in the key of A that I often finish on a big bend.
the lick is based on this
Code:
E||--12----9---------------|--------9----13----10----|
B||-------------10---------|--10---------------------|
G||-------------------9----|-------------------------|
D||------------------------|-------------------------|
A||------------------------|-------------------------|
E||------------------------|-------------------------|

--------------------10----|--14----11----------------|
--11----------11----------|--------------12----------|
--------10----------------|--------------------11----|
--------------------------|--------------------------|
--------------------------|--------------------------|
--------------------------|--------------------------|

--------11----15----12----|--------------------12----|--15----15----||
--12----------------------|--13----------13----------|--------------||
--------------------------|--------12----------------|--------------||
--------------------------|--------------------------|--------------||
--------------------------|--------------------------|--------------||
--------------------------|--------------------------|--------------||
The last note on the 15th fret being the whole tone bend. It has a kinda George Lynch/ Zakk vibe about it and you can use it in straight up rock pentatonic runs and it sounds fine.

Sorry about the poor light on this video I just threw it together to get this post started off.

OK, you're up next !!

Re: CHOP SWAP

^ Cool Tom, but where's the video to accompany it?
Without a video people have to learn them all, then get them up to speed before they will know if it's a lick they'll want to incorparate into thier playing. We need vids to let us know what the licks are like first.

Re: CHOP SWAP

I gave sources for each of the licks, the song's they're from and that....

It's mostly a technique lesson that.

If, you want, I'll delete the whole thing...

Re: CHOP SWAP

Oh, I also save licks that I write in powertabs, I could send them to people like that maybe? That way they can hear it, and the tabs are there to show them how it's done. I don't have a means of recording a vid at the moment. Nor an amp, actually.

Great idea! I'll hopefully get a chance to post my heroic sweep lick of doom over the weekend.

LOL !

I should've known that this might have ben too complicated LOL!

again, without video the chops are just tabs. This is ok but it makes it way less accessable for people to dip in and out of. We don't know what the tabs sound like, look like or what context they can be played in until we've sat down , learned them and got them up to speed. It's not much use if you've spent an hour on a lick that you'll never use in you style. I was just trying to create an easy, pick up and go chop swap.

I did mine in guitar pro then just export as, copy, type
Code:
 - paste your tab -
.

Ben

BTW Audio would be fine but will probably get skipped over as it's quicker to learn a lick if you can see it played.

Ben
Maybe we should make a thread that is more for practise chops.

Re: CHOP SWAP

a couple I use for warming up both hands, pick everything, play it faster and faster.. I guess you could use them as part of a solo but I never have.

I may add video later, it takes sodding ages to encode and upload to yuotube so, this being the first day of the school holidays... I may not !

Re: CHOP SWAP

Great Idea for a thread boy-o and I will surely participate...

But a word of advice to honourable Jemsiters: This will only work if a video and tab is posted at the same time.
