paul gilbert
have ben known to have locked themselves up and practice hours and days on end to achieve thier level of musical ability damn they all became reclusive for that period, is this really what im going to have to at sometime do if iever want to play that well, its bummin me out atm
i can put in like 4-5 hours striaght if i pushed myslef but 5 hours to a whole 24 even more . ill like lose all my friends and become reclusive i mean wtf
i really have to get into practicing more and not just playing all the time

Re: do i really have to do this to get good ?
I ahve to practise at least 3 hours a day or i get anxiety in my hands. Right now, i wake up at 10 at night, practise until 6 in the morning and do wotever until mid day and go to bed. So yer its pretty reclusive but if you like music as much i and steve/petrucci etc do then its no biggy.

More specifically, I dont think
steve vai
practised as much as you think, it was more to do with goin to music colage and touring with Zappa, Alcatraz and DLR for ten years where he would have gained alot of experience so in comparison to of alot of player, he was a late blosomer.

Watch rock disciplin by petrucci, hes got alot of good warm up things. I usually stretch my arm and then play some DT songs to warm up.

I usually stretch, and think I can play DT songs, and then I put the guitar down.

If you wanna be a shredder you gotta do
alternate picking
exercises with a metronome.

Just make sure the time you do spend practising is well spent and focused.

Re: do i really have to do this to get good ?
30 minutes will get you nowhere no matter how much you do. It takes at least 10 mins to warm up.
