Double stops and Floating trem

Hey,
I've got an RG2550 and I know with floating trems when you bend a string the others go flat and the only way to solve this is to get a tremsetter or a tremel-no. But you see guys like Vai and Satch doing double stops and then in the same song doing crazy whammy antics, so a tremel-no couldn't of been used right? But how do they get away with making the notes sound right when they do double stop bends? Do they 'under-bend' for example, if I played a E note on the B string and bent a D on the G string, would I bend the D up untill it was in tune with the out of tune E on the B string? My guitar teacher said I should bend both of the strings but that seems a load of work.

Hope this makes sense

Reece

Re: Double stops and Floating trem

I believe Vai still uses the Ibanez Backstop in some of his guitars. But there's probably another way to do it without the need for a tremsetter.

i tend to bend both strings, but its a tricky skill to learn. just keep at it, like everything with guitar it becomes natural after a while

Re: Double stops and Floating trem

I use this thing called a Trem-Stop by Schaller. It mounts on the face of your guitar, behind the tremolo. When I want fixed bridge type operation from the tremolo, I swing the trem arm around backwards and it locks into the Trem-Stop. Or the Trem-Stop grabs it you might say.

Before I discovered this Trem-Stop thing I just lived with it going out of tune. Or if I had time I would do the double-stop bend and quickly grab the bar and pull it sharp to compensate. But sometimes there isn't time for that.
