Ear Training - Intervals

I'm working on my ear training at the mo', and I'm associating well known melodies to intervals - as you do.. but, I'm having a hard time thinking of melodies for these;

Descending minor 6th
Descending major 6th
Descending minor 7th
Descending major 7th
Descending Aug.4/Dim. 5
Ascending Aug.4/Dim. 5

I thought of the Simpsons Theme for Ascending Aug.4/Dim. 5, but theres a major third in the middle of it.. and I looked all over the net but could only find things like "the first 2 notes of the Theme from Love Story" and as I didn't grow up on the set of a musical (actually I have no idea where that's from) I don't have those sort of references... So if anyone knows some tunes, could they help me out?

Cheers..

Intervals are a good way to go. You should also work on tendancy tones. Like Fa MI, Re Do, Sol Do, Ti Do. I think there's one more in there somewhere...

Perhaps La Sol? That would be a sixth resolving to a fifth...?

You've hit the wall you were inevitably going to hit with you're strategy, just make up things yourself and be sure to play over a sampler as much as possible. The biggest advantage pianists have over other instruments is they can play a chord/progression in one hand and a scale or melody in the other, it's crucial to hear the effect of a melody in relation to it's chords.

I'm not wanting to hear the melody in relation to chords - just to itself.. to learn the intervals - I know it's important to relate melody to the accomplimenting notes in a musical situation, but this is just learning as a means to an end.. Thanks though

I guess I'll just relate the descening intervals to the second note.. but if anyone has a good 1st --> Augmented 4th, let me know

Cheers
