Essential MUST LEARN songs for Acoustic Guitar

Since I play mainly heavy rock, I finding myself a bit limited to what songs I know for playing on the Acoustic Guitar. Therefore I'd like to kick start a list of acoustic songs that are easily identifiable for their guitar parts. Any genre is most welcome.

I'll kick start off a few I know

1.) Everybody hurts - REM
2.) More than words - Extreme
3.) Wish you were here - Pink Floyd
4) Wanted Dead or Alive - Bon Jovi
5.) BRon YR Aur LEd Zeppelin
6) Tears in Heaven - Eric Calpton
7) Patience - Guns n roses
Cavantina (theme from Deer Hunter) - John Williams
9.) Needle & the Damage Done - Neil Young

Pink Floyd- Brain Damage (originally written by Roger on the acoustic, and sounds a lot more mellow that way)
Metallica- Nothing Else Matters
Alice In Chains- No Excuses (Aside from solo parts, this song is damn easy to play, all off 4 chords to it)
Sublime- What I Got
Bob Marley- Redemption Song
John Lennon- Working Class Hero
Nirvana (w/Meat Puppets)- Plateau
Stone Temple Pilots- Sour Girls
Beatles- Yesterday
Weezer- Island in the Suns

Re: Essential MUST LEARN songs for Acoustic Guitar

Thanks for the alternative suggestions. Now if only I could play like these guys ! Love the flamenco stuff, I checked these guys out on youtube and they're awesome (Andres Segovia could give Yngwie Malmsteen a run for his money, even in his 80's!). I'm now a converted fan ! Also checked out Sabicas on youtube.

Segovia is responsible for making the guitar what it is today, IMHO.

Re: Essential MUST LEARN songs for Acoustic Guitar

Here are some "heavier" acoustic songs that an audience might love:

The Guess Who - No Sugar Tonight
Grand Funk Railroad - I'm Your Captain
Led Zeppelin - Hey, Hey, What Can I Do?

There are a lot more "heavier" acoustic songs among the 1970's classics.

Great list! I would just add Malaguena by Ernesto Lecuona and anything by Strunz and Farah.

I agree. He was brilliant! Classical guitar would not be the same without him.
