having a evil tone, like for example, Judas Priest- The Ripper, the chorus of the song.

Re: Evil/Dark Sounding
If you want old school evil tone, then do things like put chorus's and effects to make a sotof eerie tone. Listen to the keyboards of old ozzy etc and some of deep purples stuff for some good ideas. It has more to do with how youre playing tho.

Re: Evil/Dark Sounding
I think phrygian mode just sounds aggressive but not evil, harmonic minors can sound evil but most of the really good evil stuff is very musically advanced.
My advice would be learn some opeth (the last album was in open Dminor but the rest is mostly standard), they have to be the evilest band on earth.

Evilest band on Earth! Opeth rock, and their last album Ghost Reveries is a brilliant piece of work.

I can't believe I'm answering this question, Play something, then play it again a half-step lower. That's all what cradle of filth does.

Take a marker and write -cide after the logo on all your gear. If that doesnt work grow a beard.

Play licks/riffs/melodies/chord progressions with semitones and tritones.

Re: Evil/Dark Sounding
you'll need to sacrifice a virgin or something...
something evil sounding, hmmm...try going from a E(minor) to an A sharp. stuff like that. although the ripper is actually VERY melodic, it's just the way it was written, it's very dark sounding, but i think it's very dark more because of the vocals than the guitar progression.
