exotic scales, please help

I've been set a really crappy assignment at college. I have to find and play 3 exotic (meaning non-standard modes) scales, which isn't hard. But then I have to find the history for them as well? I have looked every where and can't find anything. If any one has any info on any scales, please for my own sanity can you help me out.
thanks,

I'd check out the Byzantine scale. Apart from being a very cool scale, it must have some background from the Byzantine time + people.

enigmatic - weird
hungarian major / minor - very Bartok / east european
bebop scales - generally major modes with an additional chromatic passing note
harmonic major - horrible sound[/list]

Well, Phrygian is just part of the Major Scale (3rd Mode), so I wouldn't call it "exotic".

Well it's not exotic, but it's sounds more interesting than the usual Ionian and Aeolian modes.

Yea, I'll give you that. I play around with it alot, being the huge George Lynch fan that I am.
