I often find when im playing ( i anchor my hand in a similar style to JP) i have a tendensy to mute the lower couple of strings. Most of the time this sint a problem as it just adds some depth to the licks. But if i need to do a nice clean run with no mutting i basically lift my hand off of the strings, by that i mean, instead of resting my palm on the lower strings like i normall do i raise my hand slightly, somtimes using my pinky to push it up a bit.

Ive tried the floating method but i just dont feel as stable, espeically when sweeping, i feel the pinky on the body really gives me a guide if you like
