Re: Forcing a lefty to play tighty - thoughts?

I'm lefty but I play guitar right handed. I started out that way from 8yrs old and never looked back.

Same here, I would've found it insanely much more easier to learn left handed but at the end of the day I couldn't afford a left-hander as a kid (and more to the point, I couldn't damn well find any in my area.) And you know what? I'm glad I wasn't so fickle about it and just learnt as best as I could right-handed, because now I can pick up any Jem I want, any PGM I want, or whatever. How many lefties can say that?

Just switch the strings around and turn it upside down.

Ive been playing guitar for about 20 years or so..
Im lefty..
and i play righty.

Personally i think it makes more sense
the left hand being stronger and more controled..
to have that hand on the neck..
Its worked perfectly for me.

Re: Forcing a lefty to play tighty - thoughts?

Another lefty here and I play normal guitars.
After several years of piano lessons and several more years playing the trumpet (including in my high school band) when I decided to get into guitars it never even crossed my mind to get a lefty guitar.

I strongly urge anyone who is in a position to get a young left handed relative into music and playing an instrument to get them a normal guitar.
After all if you were getting them a piano you wouldn't go for a left handed piano now would you?

Well the sales man is not entirely stupid.....we don´t know for how long the kid had been playing.

If a kid is just about to start up...........righthand guitar anytime...why not? He has to learn everything from scratch anyway

Re: Forcing a lefty to play tighty - thoughts?

I am lefty and actually I prefer playing lefty.

It's true that guitar choices are SO limited AND EXPENSIVE and I always want Ibanez to make a good lefty S with 24 frets...

BUT, THANKS to that, I spend very little time thinking about gears, talking about gears... 90% of my 'guitar time' I spend on my guitar.

And, the best player I've known and work with in person, guess what, he started out 2 years acoustic/classic righty, then 2 year acoustic/classic lefty, and finally he plays lefty electric.

He's a righty.

Re: Forcing a lefty to play tighty - thoughts?

It all comes down to preference. I'm a lefty and play a righty. I'm glad I did as there's so many guitar choices out there. That's the main reason why I switched to righty.
