Freak Show Excess
I don't know which hurts more? My fingers from the lack or progress or my ears from the, well... lack of progress
(you should hear some of the rubbish that's coming out of the amp - actually, no you shouldn't, no-one should be subjected to this!!!
)
It's been ages since I struggled like this with a piece!!!

Re: Freak Show Excess
I'm sure you'll get it...you're persistent! I've got that problem with everything I try...right now most of Petrucci's solo pieces. Good luck!

Jono, do you have a transcription of the piece or did you transcribe it yourself?

Re: Freak Show Excess
I'm working on Km Pee Du Wee right now.
I feel more of Vai's newer stuff concentrates more on weird fingerings, crazy streches and not really shred per se but quickness.
Good luck with the piece dude, she's a tough one!

I'm tackling that piece too, and
Lotus feet
too. Though the tab I found didn't include Steve's whammy work at the end.
Anyway, good luck with the piece.

I'm just trying to pick it out by ear. I used to be able to do that, no worries (I pretty much learned DT's whole Awake withiout any music or Tab) but these days ... LOL

Re: Freak Show Excess
The most interesting about that song are all the weird grace notes. If you saw that interactive lesson thing he did you'll know what I mean. Then again a lesson with steve is more like...Ok,here it is...didididdeddidododdbalh. Here it is slow did---ididd---edd---idod--odd--balh. Get that?
But they really make all the modal melodies a little weirder, and more of a bitch. Thanks Steve >(

Re: Freak Show Excess
The interactive lessons were a great help in figuring out the fingering for the latin-style clean riff, but whereas he says it's in 17/16, it sounds/feels more like 7/8, also when notated in the groups of 7 he suggests, it works better in 7/8. Should I re-write it in 7/8 or try to stic k with the original 17/16?
