getting started with musical theory

hello,

I've been playing on/off for a couple fo years.
I can play play a few songs reading tabs.

nothing fancy though and I am a bit bored to read only 1/3 of my guitar magazine because I don't understand the chord progressions, the mode etcetc

since I have a bit more time now I'd like to get to know the theory better.

What would be the best book / guide / dvd ??

I play rock and would like to learn about blues and jazz (and jazz/blues fusion )

thanks for your repliessssssssssss

Find a good teacher..... With books, Cd's and DVD's you're going to still have questions. Plus a teacher will be able to determine your progress, pick lessons based on that, and keep you interested.

The books and all will just sit if you get frustrated and don't understand something. Especially if there is no one to sit down with and explain it.

Doug Doppler's Diatonic Theory DVD is really good if a DVD is what you're after. www.guitar411.com

hi there!

thanks for your replies.

Got doug's dvd. started watching it the other day.
the guy seems pretty cool. it would be cool to have such a guy for a teacher.

I know that having somebody to ask questions to is important yet I really think that a book well explained can be found

if anybody here remembers of a good one to start with please let me know
