Grade 5 Practice - Help?

Hey folks,
Basically, I need to learn the following well enough in the next four months that someone can say to me "This scale in that key - go" and I can do it straight away. I have to learn the following in these keys: C, F, G, D, A, Bb

Root 6th Major
Root 5th Major
Root 6th Blues
Root 5th Blues
Minor Pentatonic in all 5 positions
Dorian Mode Of Major Scales (in above keys)
Mixolydian Mode Of Major Scales (in above keys)
Major 7th Arpeggio
Minor 7th Arpeggio
Dominant 7th Arpeggio

Can anyone give me some ideas on how to get these down, a sort of practice routine that I can do every day? If anyone has these written down in stave/tab, I would be very grateful if you e-mailed them to me.

Cheers
Joe

P.S This is for my Grade 5 guitar exam, I have to be Grade 8 to study Music Technology next year

Re: Grade 5 Practice - Help?

Just learn the "pattern" of the scale first, then the keys. Finding the key's easy if you've got a seven-stringer.
I mean, a minor pentatonic is easy once you got the pattern down. Going from D to G to A to whatever is a piece of cake with the pattern figured out.

Check out www.ibreathemusic.com, there is some really good stuff for arpeggios and scales. I'll try to write out how I remember(ed) this stuff when I had to, it's not as bad as it seems.

Re: Grade 5 Practice - Help?

Here's a link to some great arpeggio info, exercises, etc... http://www.ibreathemusic.com/article/71. I also suggest looking around for other info on that site, there's lots there. Here's one on Pentatonics to, http://www.ibreathemusic.com/article/36.

That's a start, I'll try to post some exercises as I get time...

I started to do a long post with how to remember modes with a nonsense word (LIMDAPL) and a sequence (4073625) but after re-reading your post, that may be getting ahead of where you are currently. So, we need to know where you are to help you get where you need to be... Do you know the notes on the neck? Specifically the 5th and 6th strings? Do you understand keys (and the circle of 5ths)? etc...

4 months is plenty of time to get through your list with practice (mental and physical) and I've been out of playing for a while and need to get my chops back together, so this will be good for me to go through too.

A) download a copy of power tab if you don't have it (www.power-tab.net) and
B) e-mail me (rogergroberts@comcast.net) and let me know where you are starting from (what you know now) and if you can give a little more info on your list it would help.

Roger
