Re: harmonic minor scale
It's just a natural minor scale with a major 7th.

That is the full scale, the scale has 7 notes.
A way I like to play it is divided into three identical shapes (covering two strings each) which divides the scale neatly over three octaves:
That's A harmonic minor, by the way.

That would be Phrygian Dominant. it's used a lot in classical music and by loads of shredders like Malmsteen,
Jason Becker
,
Marty Friedman
, etc.
In E that would be:
E F G# A B C D E

Re: harmonic minor scale
I thought after i posted and was playing it....but i started thinking wouldn't the 7th be flatted in that though????? (like you have D....i just noticed
).
I was playing with a Major 7 D# and thought it sounded cool
(E F G# A B C D# E)

Re: harmonic minor scale
Dominant = major third and flat seventh IMO. As with the dominant chords.
I would call it a phrygian major major 7th.
I'm not too familiar with the english terms. But what does "super" suggest?

Re: harmonic minor scale
Remember, if you are building a
chord progression
within the context of harmonic minor (if your tonality is E) then the D becomes D# only when the chords are built from scale degrees V and VII.
Example
Scale Degree (Root Note).........Chord (Triad Notes)
I (E).....................................E minor (E,G,B)
II (F#)..................................F# diminished (F#,A,C)
III (G)...................................G major (G,B,D)
IV (A)...................................A minor (A,C,E)
V (B)....................................B major (B,D#,F#) as opposed to B minor (B,D,F#) in the key of E natural minor
VI (C)...................................C major (C,E,G)
VII (D#)................................ D# minor b5 (D#,F#,A) as opposed to D major (D,F#,A) in the key of E natural minor
Cheers
