Help with a Led Zep song please!
I was on stage 2 nights ago playing "What is and what should never be" by Led Zeppelin just for fun for and open mic night. The band I play in does this song as well. It was me, our drummer, & bassist. The people hosting this was a singer and another guitar player. The guitar player said he didn't know but will just follow and wing it...that's cool no problem, and he did fine. The singer was messing it up & his timing was off, but so what we didn't care, we just were messing around, he sounded good\fine. During the song he said I was playing it wrong, wrong chords...whatever, he was messing it up. Anyway, does anyone know what the guitar is playing during the verses for sure? I would appreciate it, especially from you guys that have a great ear for figuring out songs. I don't.

You'll find quite a few transcriptions
here
. Doubtless they'll all be similar if not identical.

Ask him what chords it should be. When he undoubtedly says he doesn't know and isn't a guitar player, then you say "Exactly, now STFU and learn how to sing."

Re: Help with a Led Zep song please!
The A chord is
E-x
B------7
G-----6
D------7
A-0
E-x
If that makes sense.
The E chord is
E-x
B------7
G------7
D-----6
A------7
E-0
Probly makes no sense at all

He said the singer told him he was playing the wrong chords. Seems to be a little easier for guitarists to do Page than it is for singers to do Plant

I think Plant and Page are overated anyway, never been a Led Zep fan and never will be.

Re: Help with a Led Zep song please!
I have a feeling that since it's Zep, the tune is probably in some kind of an
alternate tuning

Right on, I have to say they were probably the best band ever. I know there were some since that were technically better, but what they did, when they did it, was a quantam leap in rock music. And you can hear every style in their music, rock, country, jazz, blues, classical, a bit of it all. "Fool in the Rain" has been in my top 5 for 10 years.
