Oh. Your funny. H-A-H-A. Not.

Back to the topic, i dont think ive EVER heard Holdsworth alternate pick (by that i mean 8 NPS and beyond.)

I think he just wanted to master one technique perfectly and be well known for doing that. And that technique was legato.

One of the problem with internet forums is that some people seem to think it's some kind of bar. They get drunk, go on a forum and post drunk nonsense.
Now, I don't go to bars because I don't want to have anything to do with drunken idiots, but do they have to spoil internet forums aswell?

You spelt "liar" wrong.

Yes, I have plenty of posts, and if you go look them up you'll find that the vast majority of them are actually useful to someone.

Let's see... the biggest poster on Jemsite is Rich Harris. He has nearly 17,000 posts. Are you gonna tell me he has nothing to do also?

Actually,as stated in a previous post, Allan really didn't like the guitar!!! He was more predisposed to the sound of the sax, but guitar was the instrument that happened to be readily available at the time!!! Consequently, his legato technique sprouted more from mimicing a sax, than from purely just wanting to be known as a legato player!!! At the time of Holdsworth's emergance in the Jazz/Fusion scene(early-mid '70s), the majority of speedy guitar players were more along the lines of John McLaughlin/Jimi Hendrix melds(ie. Larry Coryell, Bill Connors)!!! When Holdsworth appeared, his sound and style made a huge impact(ie. Eddie Van Halen,Scott Henderson,John Clarke), and pretty much made "legato" a legit style rather than just a "technique"!!! After that, all the fighting btw the Holdsworth(legato "cheaters") vs. the McLaughlin/DiMeola(alt.picking "sterile machinegunners") commenced!!!
What is truely ironic is that both McLaughlin, and Holdsworth claimed to be heavily influenced by sax players(Coltrane, Parker), but both their playing styles are like night and day!!! er....You choose which is which!!!:P
It's All Good!!!
