Re: Holdsworth alternate picking

Does anyone have video clips of the above guitarists, alternate picking or not? Just curious, I haven't listened to much Holdsworth . . .

Has nobody here heard of Shawn Lane?!

His legato techniques were far beyond incredible, definitely up there with Holdsworth and Satch.

Some of us are major Shawn Lane fans.

NOBODY is better than Lane when it comes to picking. Or anything else, come to think of it. Holdsworth is the only other player in his league, in terms of legato. Neither of them get enough credit for their absurd skills, and not only that, Shawn did it with passion and soul.

Steve who? Joe who?

Forget it. Shawn smokes the lot of 'em.

Re: Holdsworth alternate picking

True dat, Dee.
I saw a video where it's him and Shawn Rickman, the drummer, just jamming, and Shawn is purposely just shredding it up in the most untasteful way possible. It's somewhere on youtube. But...good lord. Paul Gilbert is right when he says that a normal guitarist tapping with two right hand fingers is what it sounds like when Shawn Lane does legato. And his picking is just CRAZY!!
Or was. Quite a shame he had to leave us.
But I honestly think that there is no electric guitarist to ever live able to play as fast as he could in a musical context, and that's just one aspect of his playing. "Gray Pianos Flying," for example, is just so BEAUTIFUL! That melody makes me cry!
Good lord, I NEED "Powers of Ten!" Damn you, Warner Brothers!

No! And I can't get it right now, either! Warner Bros has been selling it illegally and they're in a legal feud with the Lane family, so it's not being sold right now. Or atleast, the last time I checked that was goin on.
