How do i distungish what key things are in ?

Hi folks , obviously I'm having a little trouble here , i can do it with most things but usually takes me a while to work it out , not songs , just solos.... any tips would be appreciated , thanks

Use the force. That's what I do.
Don't forget the electric drill, preferably Makita Paul Gilbert model, priced $1299.99 at musician's friend. But if you're on a budget, a table saw will do. But the tone's not as good! And you won't be as fast! I mean, dude, my first drill was a POS solid-state Marshall, so I hear ya and know where I'm coming from. I was told that a '50s Blackface nails the SRV tone but I found my holy grail by going didjitaalia all the way baby baby baby light my baby fits the trunk of my '70s sedan.

My tips would be

->Find the basic key of the rythmn by sliding up on the low E until you ->find something that sticks

->Learn the rythmn parts... ie. chords...

-> try a bunch of modes and try and get a 'feel' for the music....

I know all of the mode patterns on the high E, so i just play loads of different note while listening to the song, until i've got 7 notes which fit. I then work out the intervals between the notes, to get the pattern
(i.e e-0-2-3-5-7-9-10-12) then change it into a mode, with its root as whatever seems to be the most dominant note/chord (in this case, E phyregian)
