How often to you play?

I'm so damn ashamed. *I've gone weeks without playing once. *I have to admit, all my technique is rusty. *When I do get to play I do a basic run through of my exercises. *Thats about it now. *I'd like to get an hour or two in every day like you guys though. *Then I will begin to progress again.

I at least play 2 hours a day. When I'm playing well I play 4-5 hours. About a year ago I played through all the songs on Metallica's Kill em' all up to the black album all the way threw with about 2 bathrooms breaks (I used to be dangerously addicted to Metallica) for my friends and that's the most I've ever played in a single day.

It sounds like there is a quite a mix from very organized hardcore regimens to the "when I can" people. *The most important thing to me is that I enjoy it. *I'm afraid that if I played for 4 to 8 hours a day, I would get tired/frustrated/bored with the guitar. *I guess my schedule works well for me. *Thanks for all the responses. *I was afraid that all you jemsiters were the 8 hr/day people, in which case, I thought I would suck forever. *Now I have more hope! *-Andy

Good point, Jesse.
Like Mick Goodrick said, "You play. You live".

Having a 9 to 5 doesn't leave too much time for various musical projects, it'd be nice to futz around with music all day long... *

How often to you play?

Yeah, working has made a serious dent in my guitar playing time, but I still manage 1.5 - 2.5 hrs every day, mind you this is just playing, i decided to start practicing again yesterday, and my fingers are having difficulty coping with typing because they are so stiff...

I used to play all the free time I had at college, and now just evenings coming back from work. But musical projects, band, playing... there just isn't enough time for it all...

I practice about 4-6h(sometimes more, sometimes less...depending) a day(spread out over two or more practice sessions), and i usually take one or two days off a week.

Sounds like a lot of people think they will get bored quickly if they practice more than xx hours a day. Well, when you practice consistantly, this hard, you develop your playing so fast, that it becomes more and more fun for each practice. Each time you open new doors..
