i found a great program for slowing down fyi
i have been trying to figure out the intro to :mean streets" forever. i've always had it close and closer than most people, but i knew there was something slightly off.
i have this program called audacity, i got it free from download.com, and with it i took that intro part, slowed it down to half speed and brought it back to pitch. now i can hear what's going on and i learned it correctly!
and forget about tabs for that intro. i looked at maybe 20 of them and they were all wrong.
another thing i use it for is to change pitch on songs. i tune to E flat so if a song is in E, i'll bring down the pitch 1/2 step for learning purposes.

Audacity is a killer app, especially for the FREE pricetag.

I also have that. It's a decent program considering it's free.

I've used that program also. It's a great little program. Haven't tried Audacity, must check it out!

I use this little plugin for winamp called "Slow Me Down", it gives you half speed with correct pitch, and it's really light (like 40 kb!)

Re: i found a great program for slowing down fyi
You have to select the "Show enhancements" option - it's one of them.
Media Player has had it since version 9 - keeps the pitch right so you can learn tricky/fast parts.

Re: i found a great program for slowing down fyi
if someone can't figure something out at 1/2 speed, stick to david gilmore solos. ;-)
that's pretty cool. i found it in my WMP. thanks dex! the cool thing about the audacity is you can edit it and save it too. they all work great though...

Re: i found a great program for slowing down fyi
oh, the "amazing slow downer" sounds much better though. the WMP thing loses quality when slowing it down.
