Hey guys, I don't know if there are any Satch fans in here but yesterday I bought "Is there Love in Space?" I am very loyal to Satriani and I would have bought the record whether it received good or bad reviews just to listen for myself and to have in the collection but I am very disappointed where he took his playing to on this CD. From the titles to the content it was an overall letdown. Why Joe has abandoned Marshall for Peavey is a mystery? For all these years he's been releasing great albums with his Marshall sound but the Peavey distortion sounds too fuzzy and unclean. Along with that there are too many effects; he overuses his
whammy pedal which seems to be comparatively over the top from how he used it in "
Crystal Planet." The tracks in general are not what I expected them to be after Strange Beautiful Music from 2 years ago. You'de think that in a 2 year span he would be able to create something great. Besides the boring 11 tracks, all of them showing lack of improvement of taking guitar to the next level, in his playing, all the other intruments like Campitelli on drums-it just seems like he's only half hitting them and there's nothing impressive about the rhythm, just a constant simple beat throughout all the songs. As far as the singing, I think he's got a great voice; I liked all his lyrical songs from Flying in a Blue Dream but the two songs that have vocals, Lifestyle and I Like the Rain, they are terrible-he's just speaking into a distorted mic. As far as the title, "Is there Love in Space," the songs don't seem to reflect the mneaing at all and it's kind of corny, I miss the cool track titles like Satch Boogie, Mystical Potato Head Groove Thing, and Chords of Life. It would be interesting to hear what your interpretation of the album was.
