Ah, yes. 'Tis sad but true. But (old) Metallica rocks so that's not necessarily a bad thing as long as it's played RIGHT. I've heard so many people mess up Metallica riffs in guitar stores and I think that's why it gets kind of a stigma.

I dont get it. You go to guitar stores to show off or to buy a guitar?

I play whatever I play when Im at home. Some improv that will probably include sweeps, taps and fast picking, but thats just because I need to know how the guitar fits me and sounds. I try at different volumes to see the response, etc ,etc , etc.

I dont see how being able to play Serrana Arpegios or something like that will change the attitude of the seller. They probable can tell who s buying and who is not by your face and attitude before you even grab the guitar.

I mess around with chords and scales when I pick up a guitar in a music store after tuning it because they always seem to be out of tune no matter how good the guitar is.

i cant play stairway to h, - normal tactic is just to get from the top of the frat board to the bottom then back in as many ways as possible. normally im not warmed up so dont play anything too fast.- jazz chords with loads of tensions are allways a winner.

I go to a guitar store to buy guitars, and I play there what I play at home, but it seems when you do, you notice everyone seems to be looking at you because everyone else seems to be playing master of puppets, enter sandman or something. There's not really much point showing off in a guitar store, because there's always someone better than you, and if you're unlucky it's the shop assistant!

As for the attitude of the seller, i've been told that the JEM10 in the window is a 'display model' only for the shop assistant to bring it over to me later when he heard my feeble attempts at for the love of god. He said he didn't let me try it earlier 'cuz he thought I was some young hooligan. All that because I had a Metallica shirt on! (anyone else had things like this happen, or do I just look unfriendly lol) People these days, huh?

im friends with the guys in musos corner (my local shop i spend too much time in) and i was in the amp room messing on the new 20th satch and i started playing stairway to heaven (stanley jordans version, i know just the start) and brent (one of the guys) came in and started to say no stairway, but saw what i was doing and left haha

if you want to scare off all those poser emo/metal teenagers that work in guitar stores and try to tell you about stuff they know nothing about, just approach a whammy bar.

they'll flee like water on oil.

but when i'm testing a guitar i always make sure i do some fast picking, fast legato, bending, vibrato, test the whammy (if applicable), play some nice extended chords, some string skipping and some heavy riffing. pretty much a little bit of every technique and area of playing.

In about 12 years I didn't go to a guitar shop.Here in my country there are always a bunch of dumb metal teens playing metallica everywhere.They always play wrong and out of tune.That's why they're dumb.It's really annoying.
Besides that sellers know nothing about what they're selling so why going to a guitar shop?
I know already what guitars I like so I buy them through my puter.
Guitar shops never more.
