Legato Lesson 2 - Hack up Rubina's Blue Sky...
This was part of a lick I stole from Satch's - Rubina's Blue Sky Happiness.
The only bits you'll notice is the runs up until the G string where I make it my own.
On the B I changed the format and made it a little more sporadic, the reason I did this is because depending on the tempo you play it at you can really adapt it to a few different situations. I also included some simple tapping on the high E.

Personally I find ascending legato much easier than descending, I know it's quite strange, but it seems to feel more fluid to me.
When ascending I find it best to pick the first note of each string to ensure clarity.
I like the way it becomes a bit disjointed from the B string onwards, it adds a nice flavour and is equally at home (to a point) in a tune like Satch's - Rubina's Blue Sky Happiness, or Jeremy's (Little Green Man) - Rain! (obviosuly according to what key you play it in it's at home in many songs)
This section also allows you to really slow it down and add some distinct phrasing, maybe a slide between notes or some trills, or even speed it up and flail away.
I love to flail away and then slow it down and slide some nice phrases into a solo....try it out sometime.
Personally I'd say experimemnt a little after you've made your fast point early on.
Next week I'll elaborate on this and turn it into a nice improv section in RBSH, including trem picking and slides.
Thanks
Steve
