more blood & tears solo

a little bit out in the the guitar solo on blood & tears, steve does some weird sounding stuff. Sounds like he's manipulateing the notes in some way, with the whammy bar(?) or using somekind of effect. Anyway..this sounds monster cool!! Anyone knows how he does this?
