Music Theory Guide

If I were to write one, would anyone be interested in a fairly in-depth guide explaining intervals, chord/scale construction, modes etc, and some more advanced jazz concepts like tritone substitutions? I figured it would be nice to have a sort of all-around FAQ for members that may be new to the guitar and music theory. It might cut down on some of the more common basic theory threads.

If anyone has any suggestions about what to include in this, just mention it here,

Re: Music Theory Guide

Go for it man!

I'll be eager to give it a read and learn from it. I'm always willing to learn new Theory. I'm not fantastic at theory myself.

It would be great if you could include applying the theory to guitar as well.

I think that is where people struggle, including myself. I can learn the notes and how to construct chords, the notes in scales etc but I sometimes struggle to grasp how to use all that on the guitar.

Definitely. It's safe to say that almost everyone here is a guitar player anyway, it'd be stupid not to talk about applying theory to the instrument. It will give me an excuse to force my views on all of you (anyone who doesn't think theory is as heated a subject as politics isn't a real musician)

I'll make a thread a start putting up bits and pieces at a time. There's no reason I can't have most of it done within a week (I have no social life and lots of spare time)

Re: Music Theory Guide

That would be one hell of a task. I'd suggest just covering the basics in depth, rather than covering advanced concepts, which are quite literally never ending.

I look forward to seeing the results. Good luck!

I'm hoping to have the modes section done tonight. I'll cover intervals, chord/scale construction, and progressions afterwards.

I'm going to try to make it as simple and understandable as possible while still being thorough.
