Sorry can't help with your technique question really, although i would urge you to concentrate on playing with a pick - i think you can achieve more techniques more easily using a pick when
playing guitar - on the other hand i think pick is extremely limiting when used with bass because you can recreate the attack sound using finger nails and can pick really fast and continuous if you bring your third finger into action Sheehan style, while pick players loose all the extra control and percussive techniques that finger style players can use.
My reason for replying is to point out that it does not matter a **** what kind of guitar you use to play a certain kind of song - ignore popular opinion that says you can only play country on a telecaster because it's based on ignorance. Your guitar is about as good a shred guitar as is available in the world today, as such it will be alot easier to play other kinds of music on too because its design is aimed squarely at playability according to modern players' musicianship, not the ability of players in the '50s for example.
Floating trems and locking nuts prevent some country music and blues techniques but that's all. Everything else is possible and will be easier to play on your RG than it would have been on MK's strat although i can't comment on the comparison to his Suhr guitar(s).
