need interval tip, tunes to help recognise b6, 6, b7?
Hey,
i've been working on my intervals and i need some wellish known tunes to help me recognise the flat 6, 6 and flat 7..
(eg. i use the simpsons theme for a flat 5)
i can't think of anything for them so far..
thanks!!

Just take an old jazz standard like "All The Things You Are" and take any dominant functioning chord like b7 chord and substitute it with b6. Depending on what key you play it in just break it down dude. Take any major chord (I)chord and instead of 7 use 6, then play associated scales over each chord... No problemo.
b7= lydian, mixolydian
maj7= ionian, lydian
min7= aeolian, dorian
etc... bla... bla...bla. The possibilities are litterally endless as far as what scales to mix together, just have fun with it and learn.

I'm trying to think of one for the flat 6, but I've got a few for the others.
6 - the NBC 3 note theme - "N (1) B (6) C (4)"
flat 7 - remember the old FORD jingle "have you driven a ford lately?" Well, from "have you driven a" to "ford" is a flat 7.

i don't see how this relates? thanks, but i'm not talking about what to play or theory, just to learn to recognise the intervals alone (ie. 2 notes played to you on a piano)
melodyman- unfortunately i'm in australia and have never heard the nbc thing
and can't remember the ford thing, there a clip on youtube or something?

You've never heard the nbc theme? Wow - lucky you!
Maybe you have and you don't know it...if you have your guitar, play the open D, then the open B, then the open G and that's the theme - that first interval is the sixth.
As for finding both on youtube...I'm not sure, I haven't checked. I'll try to think of other popular songs with those intervals...good luck!
