New Tune To Learn, Any Ideas?

I'm trying to think of an instrumental along the lines of Joe Satriani's Tears In The Rain to learn. I can't think of one! It doesn't have to be Satriani or Vai etc but a 2 minute or so instrumental, ideally which is just a chord picking kinda tune like Tears In The Rain.

Any ideas would be great, thanks in advance

Re: New Tune To Learn, Any Ideas?

Try "If I could fly" by Satriani....some beautiful melody and crazy legato runs in there.

Re: New Tune To Learn, Any Ideas?

Sisters is a very nice tune, I'm Kinda restricting myself to two mintutes or so as instrumentals take me a very long time to learn (tears took 2 months lol though had to learn new chords for that) midnight took me a good month.

If I could fly is a nice tune too, its also well over 6 minutes and its a full band playing.

thanks for the ideas though, keep em coming. Maybe even classical pieces ? (short ones lol)

Re: New Tune To Learn, Any Ideas?

if your just looking for a guitar only 2 minute thing to show off to, try some of Satriani tappings tracks, like Midnight or the Headless Horseman.

He did them 2 while everyone else went for a drink along with a quick Q&A at one of his gigs, was awesome

Here's a different suggestion. It's short, but it's awesome in my opinion - "Dee" by Randy Rhodes.

Another option is "When The Children Cry" by White Lion off the Pride CD.

Satriani: "A Cool New Way" off the latest CD.
This song puts me in a trance.

I know you can find When The Children Cry on youtube.com. It was extremely popular in the late 80's.

Not sure a video was ever done on Dee. The only recording I have of it is of Ozzy's "Randy Rhodes Tribute". It's the very last track and it's studio outtakes, but the last attempt he did at the song he went the whole thing thru without stopping. It's a beautiful classical piece he wrote for his mother whose name is Dee. Would sound the best with a real classical guitar.

It's very short and not difficult to play. If you haven't played this style before it'll be different. All fingers - no picks. Might take a day or so to get used to the technique, but after that you might get hooked and start coming up with your own stuff. I did, but that was back in the late 80's when I first learned the song. I dug out the tab book for it recently and I think I'm going to get back into this weekend - relearn it.
