Paul Gilbert's "flange of death"
Paul Gilbert
has this cool trick whereby using his hardtail PGM he gets a sound like a massive bar pullup ..but obviously it can't be because he doesn't have a bar. I recently saw him at a clinic in the UK where he briefly described it as his "flange of death" and he does seem to be stomping on a flange pedal to induce the effect and turning it off again afterwards.
Anyone know more about this how he sets the pedal up ?

Re: Paul Gilbert's "flange of death"
I am guessing you are talking about the old 1970's ADA Flanger pedals, that go for like $250 on Evilbay?
I tried to get a look at his
pedal board
when I saw him on Thursday at his clinic, but I couldnt get close enough at the time. But I love his simple setup though, simple yet incredibly effective!

No audio clip but one place I know of is at the end of "Phallic Tractor" fading into "Fire Of Rock" on Racer X's Technical Difficulties CD

Or you could see him at clinic or a gig at some point. He will most defenitely do it there too.

I'd like to know the answer to this question too, is it the old old ADA flanger, or possibly a rack flange that ADA put out in the 80s?

Re: Paul Gilbert's "flange of death"
Old floor model....not the rack unit. Here's a pic of his pedal board:
