pg's songs reccomendation..are those just jokes?

taken from:http://www.paulgilbert.com/FAQ.html

Practice all the time. Learn one new thing every day. And try to learn these songs:

1. "Circumstances" by Rush (from the album "Hemispheres")
2. "Mother Mary" by UFO (from "Strangers in the Night")
3. "Little Dreamer" by Van Halen (from "Van Halen")
4. "If I Fell" by The Beatles (from "A Hard Day's Night")
5. "Riff Raff" by AC/DC (from "If You Want Blood You've Got It")
6. "Sheena Is a Punk Rocker" by The Ramones (from "Rocket to Russia")
7. "Gettin' Betta" by Pat Travers (from "Live! Go For What You Know")
8. "Day of the Eagle" by Robin Trower (from "Bridge of Sighs")
9. "Majestic" by Journey (from "Evolution")
10. "No Matter What" by Badfinger (from "The Very Best of Badfinger")

After that, you should be ready for anything!

my question is: is he serious for all that?..i mean badfinger?beatles?you guys know that since paul gilbert always cover some kinda songs like 2 become one(spce girls),dancing queen(abba),etc...

Im sure hes serious.
His love for the Beatles is common knowledge, and although he can shred better than the best his sense of melody is one of his strongest points.

+1

I saw him do a clinic once (way pre-spicegirls) where he did a complex layered beatles song arranged for guitar. Heavy stuff, I would never listen to spicegirls or beatles myself, but PG is pure class.

2 become 1 is a prime example, the way he does it is tongue in cheek (especially with sabbath and zep thrown in), but at the same time his comments at the end are also serious from a muscial point of view. You can learn a lot from the way those tunes use strange/complex chords.

Q: Why did you cover songs by The Spice Girls, ABBA, Carole King, and The Osmonds?

A: Expect the unexpected.
