Playing Cleaner

I want to play cleaner, i know practice is the way, but there is such thing as practicing wrong. Any Guidance? As in sweep technique, when i do it i muffle 1 or 2 notes, but it sounds correct. How Can I Get Pass This.

Re: Playing Cleaner

Always start out slow and do not rush is the key I remember someone told me there's no right way to practice and there's certainly no wrong way too. Metronome helps a lot too

Re: Playing Cleaner

Some basics would be to play on the clean channel of your amp and build up your speed. It's better to play an exercise slowly at first and clean, then build up your speed versus just playing fast and all over the place.

For me, using the right pick makes a HUGE difference. An accurate, hard pointy pick like a Jazz III for example is going to be cleaner sounding than a wide flimsy nylon pick.

Hope that helps

Re: Playing Cleaner

Clean all the way - no distortion - in fact, your acoustic guitar is a good start as you get to really hear what your fingers are producing!

Re: Playing Cleaner

It's true, acoustically is a great way to practice, I did it myself for 6 years -- no amp at all, but then a distorted amp will really highlight the parts you fluff up and were never aware of. I'd say playing cleanly through an overdriven amp and staying in control is just as important as practicing acoustically or on the clean channel.

Exactly.

I agree with Fang on the Jazz III picks. I only recently discovered them but they are great.
