Question

Power Tab and Guitar Pro

I tried doing a search and didn't really come up with anything on here, but I'm just wondering who here uses either Power Tab and/or Guitar Pro. If so, what is your general opinion of them - what's better, etc...

I'm mainly interested in them for the ability to download tab files for them online...

Thanks - any help would be appreciated!

Re: Power Tab and Guitar Pro

I've used both, and seem to find more files for Guitar Pro. I dont really like one more than the other, but GP seems to have more features.

Re: Power Tab and Guitar Pro

Do you have the full version of Guitar Pro or just the trial version, elcid? What are the major differences? Do you think it's worth the money, b/c power tab is free so that's also a perk.

And yes, I know you get what you pay for...just in case anyone wanted to say it.

I have the full version, but I dont use any of the extra things. I just use it to get tabs and print them.

Re: Power Tab and Guitar Pro

I've used PT for ages. As cid said, there's more files for guitar pro but powertabs.net has a load of tabs for power tab.

I use it cos it's free and does the job.

Re: Power Tab and Guitar Pro

Used both, Guitar Pro is a lot more powerful but Power Tabs is infinitely more user friendly to my mind (and free!). If only Brad would get PT 2.0 out there - 6 years in development now, never any word on how far off it is - then we might have a winner...

Re: Power Tab and Guitar Pro

i use the full version of gp5, if you look around you can find packs with like 24000 tabs for it (or something similarly ludicrous). its much easier to use, and much more powerful than power tab. definitely worth it.

just dont get into the habit of playing along to guitar pro in front of your pc all day, i did it and its the best way to become a clone guitarist in a hurry....

Re: Power Tab and Guitar Pro

I just use PT, but I've used a trial of GP and it's definitely more powerful.

Re: Power Tab and Guitar Pro

I used to only use PT but since GP 5 came out I find it alot better in how you can set out the screen, the RSE sounds horrible though.

Re: Power Tab and Guitar Pro

Guitar Pro 5 is the best thing for learning new songs. As for the RSE sounding terrible, listen to PT's MIDI. The best thing for me is being able to slow down solo's and learn them beat for beat, measure for measure, without pitch changes

Re: Power Tab and Guitar Pro

Guitar pro for me. Used Power tab before but found Guitar pro better mainly becuase there was more tabs out there. I had GP4 and it couldn't keep up with fast songs (e.g. Dragonforce solos, Sweep picking etc) and GP5 seems to be able to keep up alot better.

Guitar Pro for me is a real good way of writing songs, I always use it for tabbing me bands songs as its always there for future reference.

Re: Power Tab and Guitar Pro

i have used both
GP5 kicks PT in my option
the interface is more user friendly. lot more options and it runs faster and smoother

i didnt like the idea of the tic tac tic tac before the song starts

and one down thing of PT is, theres NO DRUMS?!

my opinion is that playing to a click track is damn boring
and GP5 allows u to mute your guitar track and play to the backings and its way better practings with a drum then click track right?. you'll know where to accentuate and pause and its jsut way more interesting

tabbing you own songs is easier too
and u an export the tab as a midi file for other to listen

Re: Power Tab and Guitar Pro

Obviously GP is gonna have better features then PT because you have to pay for it. That's the main 'selling' point for PT, it's completely free.
