Re: Practicing too much = slump??

i was getting bummed out with trying to do the same stuff only better, and just winding up frustrated! my advice: learn other guitar styles. you do really fast progress cos ur starting from scratch with your approach to the instrument and it realy opens your mind!
jazz guitar.......lush!

Re: Practicing too much = slump??

Ironically enough I just picked up my Jem after at least a fortnight of no guitar playing at all. I am finding that with a son this happens frequently but I am not losing too much of my meagre abilities. In fact I am much more inspired every time I play, in fact I am practically writing a new song every time I pick up the guitar.

JJEMMER777 try and see this as a positive thing. It might take you along a new path to even greater guitar glory. In my case this is the intro to "Green-Tinted Sixties Mind" by Mr. Big. Although to be fair if I only practice once a fortnight it eill be Xmas before I get it right

So.....I've been practicing more. You know the old, "practice, practice, practice makes perfect thing.

Grrrr!!! Now I seem to have fallen into a slump though, because in BAND practice I'm missing notes on my skips, sloppy sweeps, etc. Some of these songs I have been playing for years
In the last 4 practices I have been terrible. My bandmates are looking at me like WTF What happened to you Jim??

Do you think it's possible to practice TOO much??? That maybe a couple weeks off is in order???I've always heard you can never get too much practice. Not so sure anymore.

If yous would be so kind as to share / enlighten me with your input / personal experiences / advice, which I respect so much I'd appreciate it

Should I take a hiatus from guitar for a couple weeks, or just get over it and stop this childish whining ????

Thanks

Take a break .

Regards

André

Re: Practicing too much = slump??

If you warm up properly youll have this problem less and less. The key thing is those days your practicing alot your likely to have went through all the motions already.
