Rock Style soloing

Hi

I just want to get rid of my bluesy style soloing. I want to play like bon jovi queen or zakk wylde solos. What should I practice ? Pentetonics ? Modes? Help Please

learn the solos you really like(TAB or whatever)

..you'll find yourself incorporating licks, ideas and scales into your improvisation

but yes a lot of them use the minor pentatonic scale.

A sort of variant of it that I like to use (uses accidentals)
is
-------------------------5-7-8-
----------------------5-7-8----
----------------5-7-8----------
----------5-6-7----------------
----5-6-7----------------------
5-8----------------------------

Sometimes I'll throw in notes such as

High E -5-7-8
High B 5-6-8

A------5-7-8
Low E5-7-8

to make it feel more minorish than bluesish.

Just take a few songs by wydle and bon jovi and learn them. then take little riffs like

12
15p12
14b16
and mess around with them.

Learn the pents inside out, as well as the major and minor scale patterns. Also, if you're interested in those particular bands, start playing (and learning by ear) their songs and solos.

I would try learning as many different scales as you can and you will naturally stop phrasing everything with a bluesy feel. I learned a lot of different minor scales and it really helped me get away from my blues sound that I kinda got stuck on. One of the best books I have is Chords, Scales and Arpeggios by Al Napolitano, I've had it for years so I don't know if it's still in print.

I'm not saying it's wrong but my opinion differs with the above - that is if MrAngry is suggesting that you learn the scale patterns. Don't learn scales that way. Learn how they are constructed and aslong as you've got an okay brain and know the fretboard notes, you'll be able to figure out the scales by yourself.

The best way to lesson your blues sound is to play different styles of music. However YOU DON'T WANT TO LOSE IT ALL TOGETHER. A little bit of blues is good in everyone's playing. I find that all the most interesting guitarists incorperate many different styles of music into their style.
