Re: Scarified by Paul Gilbert
No issues here. Has pain started recently? Maybe you are actually playing too much? I get a dull ache in my forearm sometimes when I've been playing 5-6 hours a day. How bout givin' it a break for a day or two? Hard, I know, but it helps me.

Mylo, I work and have a family - im lucky to get 1 hour a day to practice....
I have had no choice in giving it a break for a day or two cos I really cant play after practicing those arpeggio's for 1/2 hour.
Im starting to think that its just a new muscle being used and we all remember what it was like to start out - pain in the arm etc !!!
Im also finishing off learining technical difficulties and I dont have any probs with that track...
must be that im using new muscles.... (i hope)

Re: Scarified by Paul Gilbert
Ha, I guess I'm lucky that I *have* to practise lots for my A Level!
Funny that, I've been doing Technical Difficulties and Scarified at the same time, too - awesome tunes.
Just got one more lick thing in Technical Difficulties to learn... the godawful stretchy one at the start of the solo... Gah.
My old music teacher used to get a similar sounding pain when doing widdly bollocks on guitar, but he said that was because of him golfiing alot.
Been on the green, lately?
Could just be a small muscle in your arm that has never had such a beating in it's life?

I reckon your right mate, beating the hell out of a muscle ive never used
'on the green' - hah im no golfer !
- rugby perhaps..
I reckon the TD riff you mean is the diminished run before the mega-fast g-major run... the
(e string) 17 - 14 - 11
(g string) 17 - 14 - 11
I can do that without too much worry but I did try an alternative which was
(e-string) 17 - 14
(b-string) 16
(g-string) 17 - 14
(d-string) 16
this means that you can sweep pick the riff instead but.... I really dont like sweeping and I prefer the stretchy riff and the way it sounds...

Re: Scarified by Paul Gilbert
Nah the lick I'm on about starts 2-4-7 on the D, then 4-7-9 on the G, kinda leading up-to, like.
RUGBY?!
You play rugby and wonder why your arms are aching lol.

ah yea, I think its the pentatonic run just before the solo...
I tried that and decided to play it as an 'in position' run starting at fret 12 on the low E... it goes up 6 notes an then down three to the starting position for the next 6 note run....
Im pretty sure that he goes though that type of riff in intense rock 1...
and no - I retired from playing rugby in the middle of last year. just getting too old.. and too injured...
