To be honest, I don't think that he means anything particular or out of the ordinary. I think he was taking into account that it's a tuitional article and so was just saying that trills are not articulated, but slurred so you don't play every note. Most people would just say 'trill' because by definition it includes the fact that it's slurred together, but I think he was just being extra clear about it to cater for everyone!
