Soloing question.. - derr


How do you know what scale to use in a song?

Might be joing a band and i want to add extra...funny thing...I can play REALLY well.. but normally by ear.


They really only use "power" chords, some minor and some major....for now

ok, easy way is just to play a pentatonic scale based on the first chord in a sequence (so if th first chord is an A5 power chord play a pentatonic starting from the A on the bottom string), playing by ear is the best way and so long as you can tell what the root note of the key is, you should be able to work the rest out as you go along just buildng on the pentatonic shape. BEAR IN MIND that this doesn't always apply its just a general quick fix. After awhile you wil be able to just tell what the key is. Remeber to try and train your ears as much as your fingers and learn intervals!! * *
