Songs to learn -- suggestions?

So I'm just wondering if any of you guys could shoot out some songs [nothing Vai or "guitar god like" though] that are fun to play, have a cool riff and a nice melody. For instance, "Walk This Way" by Aerosmith would be a song I would be looking for. Preferably a song with a solo as well, of course, not limitd to one. A song that is a bit technical, something that you think has a good beat and is catchy/impressive. Absolutely no punk songs where the whole song consists of power chords and 3 different notes.

Planet X -- Moonbabies.

I'm joking! Hehe.

I'd say try learning some Extreme songs. Nuno Bettencourt has a great rhythm style and it'll do your playing a lot of good. Then again, it may be a little hard for you, depending on your level of proficiency.

Livin' Lovin' Maid by Led Zeppelin would be a good song. It's got great easy, but technical solos as well as all the requirements you listed.

Re: Songs to learn -- suggestions?

Good solid songs to learn...

Excelent question!

Every guitarist should know the following:
Paranoid
Foxey Lady
Purple Haze
Stairway
1 song from the Ozzy/Rhoads Tribute album (My pref. is Children of the Grave)
Enter Sandman
Cemetary Gates (that is a killer riff)
Satisfaction
+as many Beatles songs as you can fit in your head.

(but what do I know... I'm shockingly bad... )

-Bob

[Edit - I also agree with the above comment. Anything by deep purple. You're lying to yourself if you think it's not worth learning "Smoke on the water". I'd also recomend learning Black Night too. Also try and get a Van Halen song in there, maybe "you really got me" cover he did]
