Re: Steve's whammy trill thing

Depress the bar about an inch, then let is snap back on it's own. That's all there is to it. Works better if you point the back backwards first, and the effect is dependant upon how the guitar is set up, but it will work on any floyd type trem.

It's called the flutter effect.

Re: Steve's whammy trill thing

As stated above its commonly called Flutter. Brad Gillis also uses the technique a lot. An easy way to execute it while holding your pick is to use your middle finger (the longest finger), and strike the very tip of the bar and let your finger pop/slide off the rounded end end of the bar after pressing it down. The tremelo with snap back into place and slightly overcompensate (go sharp, go flat, go sharp etc) - end thus you have that cool effect.

I agree. Much easier if the bar is back.

Re: Steve's whammy trill thing

Make sure your trem arm is fitted tightly into the trem...lest you get a THUD instead of the desired flutter

Have fun!

Re: Steve's whammy trill thing

Old thread, but I don't care I've had my RG370DX for about 2 years now, and I cannot get it to do that (flutter). I've tried old springs, springs at an angle (they're like this /|\ now) springs parallel. I even stored it in its case for days at a time with the bar on the guitar to try and stretch them out a bit, all to no avail. I could do it with my old '90 EX350 (with the old-school Floyd) and both of my old '91 RG550s (both with the first Lo-Pro Edge), but not my '03 RG370DX. Any suggestions??
Thanks
