Suggestions for instructional material

Hey Guys!
I have been playing for a few years and am so bad at soloing that I feel ashamed to play the guitar in front of people.

I live in India and there are absolutely no instructional material available. All the stuff I have been able to learn from are the tabs floating on the net. My knowledge is limited to the major scale and that's about it.

Can u guys please suggest few books/Cd's that I can order from the net. The material should be such that I can learn theory as well as technique so that I can use it to start afresh and actually get somewhere instead of just playing 3 chord progressions all my life. Maybe be able to fulfill my ambition to be a Jazz Guitarist.
