yes it is hard. 3-4 strings arn't to bad but once you get into 5-6 strings, its a bitch, especially if you have short stubby fingers like myself. I find rolling my fingers almost impossable on the asending.

no you shouldnt sweep like that!they way he he moves his wrist is not good,
you want to keep your wrist in the same angle through the sweep and you should also never bar the sweeps.

Re: Sweep Tabs plz...

yeah i got the Marc Seal vid, its just that in it he says things like "the hard bit is sweeping the pick" and "simple patterns for your left hand" and im finding that its the left hand thats giving me all the problems.

i think i must have weak fingers now, i have probably got lazy over the years.

Re: Sweep Tabs plz...

The right hand motion is nothing compared to whats going on with your left handed muting and movements. As time goes on you can smooth out your right hand motion to get things as fluidy as possible.

Sweeping is really hard when your just starting. I thought it was actully impossible. Start with the simple 3 string patterns and work your way up SLOWLY untill each is mastered.

http://www.insaneguitar.com/mc/MCPIX/sweeping14.GIF Taught me to sweep simple 5 stringers.

Re: Sweep Tabs plz...

I learned off of Rusty Cooleys Shred Guitar Manifesto you should check it out, he shows you the excersise slow and then fast, there are many cool 3 and 6 string patterns.

Start learning your Scales & Modes tomorrow then, and sweep them arpeggios as you start to see and hear the patterns that are hidden withing the scales itself. example: full Cmajor barré chord on the 8th fret sweep down/up over an A minor...

If you find the chords hidden in the scales, sooner or later you should hear yourself do "familiar stuff" over A minor and E (phrygian) minors using THE SAME scale

So, instead of only just practising sweep tabs (there are a lot), try to get to the point that you "see" the "patterns" over the fretboard at any given chord. If you succeed, you will sound like yourself because your very approach is your own, not just a "droned-in" pattern out of some (great) song by another.

I cannot deny, however, that really learn a full Yngwie song/solo or SSV intro (from the Eat'm & smile era) is a good exercise to have developped the chops required to, at some point, play the "patterns" you "see" and execute them technically precise and clear.

Remember that the only true obstacle to master guitar is in your head.

Best regards,

D.
