Sweeping Tech?

I'm getting good at this technique but I'm having a hard time applying it. Any suggestions?

Re: Sweeping Tech?

rarely can u use it in a practical form, EXCEPT for sweeping up or down an arp, or just doing a little run with an arp or two.. sorry to anyone who wuold disagree but doing strat forward sweep runs soudns LAME in most situations.. can you sweep accurately with a metronome? make sure every note is even, most the guys i hear trying to sweep are 'whipping' the tops and speeding up and slowing down.. also, never sweep faster then you can do so in a very clean manner, and never do it so fast that it sounds more like a chord then an arpeggio... ive heard so many guys who think they can do it, and dont have a hope in hell if you were to ask them to play it at a practical tempo with a metronome.

I don't think I have ever seen/heard any situation where sweeping really "fit". I know some guys really like it, but...

Uhhhhh, ever heard of a guy named Tony MacAlpine? His sweeps do fit timing and they are graceful and if you slow them down, every single note is distinct.

This is the case with him without exception all over "Maximum Security".

+ 10 f**king billion. Tony is one of the finest sweepers out there.

Hey Thrash, take a listen to T-MAC on a track called Tower of London from the album Premonition. The "chorus" of the song is all sweeps.

Re: Sweeping Tech?

Not sure if you'll find a vid of that track but Tony sweeps all the time anyway, you'll come across something tasty if you just keep watching. God I love MacAlpine...

Re: Sweeping Tech?

I think maybe that Macapline is the exception to the rule.

Sweeping sounds pretty dull to me no matter how technically difficult it is

It's true, but if use at "certain" places it'll sound interesting
