Tapping

How do I avoid getting the 'ping' sound when tapping on higher frets without barring one of the lower frets, like tapping onto an open string?

Re: Tapping

you mean the opposite length of the string sounding? you can't unless you put one of those hairband things there or use your other hand to dampen the strings.

Re: Tapping

You either need to dampen the strings with your hand, or a hairband. Also what worked for me was replacing the pickups in my guitar. I had some crappy stock pickups, whenever I tapped on the higher frets I would always get a harp sound (the neck resonates too making that "ping" sound). I got some Dimarzio d-activators and the harp sound disappeared.
