Tapping Lesson: *Juice SOLO - very hard....

OK boys and girls. *Here's what you've all (at least two or three) been waiting for. *The tough part of this one is sitting down and tabbing it out. *

I'm not going to tab out the entire solo, since a lot of it is just melody and artificial harmonics. *What I will help you with is that one really hard tapping run at the middle of it.

The reason this tapping run is so hard is two-fold.
- first, it requires a lot of alternating between picking and tapping
- secondly, it requires dexterity of the pinky and middle fingers. *Traditionally, guitarists have string index and ring fingers, this makes this run even harder.

The most important part of this run is to read it over a few times and play slowly, watching where your fingers natural play fastest.

Here's the tab

e---------------------------------7h10-t14p10p9h10------7h12|
B-------------------5h8-t12p8p7h8------------------8h10-----|
G-----4h7-t12p7p6h7-----------------------------------------|
D-5h7-------------------------------------------------------|
A-----------------------------------------------------------|
E-----------------------------------------------------------|

e-t15p7h8h10-------10h14-t17p10h12-------12h17-t19p12h14h15-|
B------------10h12-----------------12h15--------------------|
G-----------------------------------------------------------|
D-----------------------------------------------------------|
A-----------------------------------------------------------|
E-----------------------------------------------------------|

e-------14h17-t21p17p14----------15h19-t22p19-t22p19
B-14h15-----------------17p15h17--------------------
G---------------------------------------------------
D---------------------------------------------------
A---------------------------------------------------
E---------------------------------------------------

Unfortunately, I'm away from home and do not have my JEM, but I've recorded how the solo should sound on my RG, you can hear it by clicking here http://www.geocities.com/cmd4rll/
and clicking on JUICESOLO.WAV

Hope this helps guys. *One other tip: *I find it a lot easier to play this with a bigger pick than usual.

Great work. But it's not getting any easier. This is harder than For the Love of God, Tender Surrender, The Bells of Lal pt. 2, ....etc.... put together!

For me the hardest aspect is not finger dexterity, but changing positions fast enough to keep up with the tempo. Both my Axis & RG neck are unfinished too.

I never did nail this part because I didn't practice switching between pick and tapping. *Maybe if it ever sparks an interest in me again I will try it. *I had the entire song nailed except for that part, so it shouldn't take me long to get it back together.

By the way Chris, got enough distortion there?

thud thud thud thud...

Your advice is great but you could use a little work yourself, there! I think we're all better off if when we give lessons we have the specified lick or whatever nailed so we can play it in our sleep, with both hands tied behind our backs. *L* This definitely is not what it "should" sound like. *
EDITED FOR MATURITY:

hmm....well like I said, I'm not at home, and I did my best for you guys on what I had.

a minor note: *I uploaded a different take of the solo (which my friends, but not me) prefer. *It's in the place of the original link. *Let me know if you like this any better.

Would it help in the future if I write which finger to use underneath the tab?

Cheers Chris,

Certainly nailed it better than I can.

At least someone is contributing regular helpful stuff.

Chris,

In light of the incredibly rude post that I just finished reading in this thread, let me first of all thank you for your contributions. *Reading your posts makes me really want to practice more and improve, which in turn increases the level of enjoyment I get from playing guitar. *Again, many thanks my good man.

This morning I have run across two of the most idiotic posts I have witnessed on this forum, one in this thread and one somewhere else...Glen banned that guy. *I have not been here long, mind you, but I consider this to be somewhat of a refuge for me. *Bottom line, mean people suck...if you don't have anything nice to say, then keep it to yourself. *That is all, I'll hop off my soapbox now and start smiling again...heck, its Friday everybody!!

I don't think I'd be able to show my face hear again if I don't clear this up.

I feel like sh!t. *I read the post now and I feel vain and malicious; this is not me. *Sometimes we (I) forget that we are dealing with real people here, and get carried away. *I don't even know where I got that; I couldn't play it that well in my wildest dreams. *I feel cruel, mean spirited and tired.

You have the rightful reason to expect every ounce out of me to give you my most sincere apologies. *Nobody deserves this kind of senseless harm, especially you! *You sounded terrific, especially considering your rig. *I'm not going to plead forgiveness, because that just sounds ***. *I just want you to understand that I feel for you and that this did more harm to me than it - hopefully - did to you.

I am SO sorry. *You are a good guy and definitely do not deserve that. *You sounded awesome on that file, there's no doubt about it. *I hope you can accept this.

Jackson, your appology, though un-necessary, is definately accepted. *Truth be known, it hurt a bit at first, but you inspired me to practice a little harder, and maybe that's necessary. *We've all posted things we regret (even if no-one else has a problem with them).

To everyone who takes the time to read these lessons, thanks a lot. *It's always my pleasure to try to help in any way. *I find that the more I teach, the more I'm forced to understand it myself.
