Tapping Lesson: *Juice SOLO - very hard....

OK boys and girls. *Here's what you've all (at least two or three) been waiting for. *The tough part of this one is sitting down and tabbing it out. *

I'm not going to tab out the entire solo, since a lot of it is just melody and artificial harmonics. *What I will help you with is that one really hard tapping run at the middle of it.

The reason this tapping run is so hard is two-fold.
- first, it requires a lot of alternating between picking and tapping
- secondly, it requires dexterity of the pinky and middle fingers. *Traditionally, guitarists have string index and ring fingers, this makes this run even harder.

The most important part of this run is to read it over a few times and play slowly, watching where your fingers natural play fastest.

Great work. But it's not getting any easier. This is harder than For the Love of God, Tender Surrender, The Bells of Lal pt. 2, ....etc.... put together!

For me the hardest aspect is not finger dexterity, but changing positions fast enough to keep up with the tempo. Both my Axis & RG neck are unfinished too.

I never did nail this part because I didn't practice switching between pick and tapping. *Maybe if it ever sparks an interest in me again I will try it. *I had the entire song nailed except for that part, so it shouldn't take me long to get it back together.

Your advice is great but you could use a little work yourself, there! I think we're all better off if when we give lessons we have the specified lick or whatever nailed so we can play it in our sleep, with both hands tied behind our backs. *L* This definitely is not what it "should" sound like. *

In light of the incredibly rude post that I just finished reading in this thread, let me first of all thank you for your contributions. *Reading your posts makes me really want to practice more and improve, which in turn increases the level of enjoyment I get from playing guitar. *Again, many thanks my good man.

JEM7VWH---thanks for your posts here...the Juice solo is one Ive been working on...definitely one of the greatest all-time solos by anyone....I recommend getting the Alien Love Secrets video for anyone wanting to learn solos from that album, as its helpful to see how vai does what he does

Jackson, your appology, though un-necessary, is definately accepted. *Truth be known, it hurt a bit at first, but you inspired me to practice a little harder, and maybe that's necessary. *We've all posted things we regret (even if no-one else has a problem with them).
