The Satch Scream?????
Is it possible to do the
Satch
scream
in any song key, or do you have to try to hit an actual note or can you hit anything and have it work?

Re: The Satch Scream?????
its a pinch harmonic on the g sting on th 24th fret (or where 24th fret would be as JS has 22 frets) he often has whammy bar down first then does the harmonic then pull bar back for that scream of his.
if thats awkward to pull off do 5th fret harmonic on the G string but this time not a pinch one do a regular one where u touch the fret then let go on finger, then do whammy bar fun
(cant check video link at work but i'm guessing it'll be like the one i mentioned)

Well I know how it works...But, what I'm wondering is, can you do it in any song key?

If it sounds good why not ??
To make it more in key hit a different harmonic or use a different string or wave the bar differently

Re: The Satch Scream?????
If in doubt, just hit it with a hammer .....on lol
Bang_Bang answered you question, and logic would suggest that if you're "pulling up" from a starting note, you will be traveling across many notes, there for the key is irrelevant. Like a pianist running his thumb all the way up, or down, a keyboard.
Or, you could listen to Jeff Beck's Where Were You and listen to some serious whammy harmonic control for note precision.

Re: The Satch Scream?????
it doesn't matter, the scream itself is a long note which encompasses maybe an octave or more if you do it right like satch does. it will work in any song and any key, apart from a slow love song or something.

Re: The Satch Scream?????
Certainly, it's one of Satch's trademark "licks", but he's right when he says it's embarrassingly easy to pull off. Further, there's no compelling reason to hit the harmonic that high on the strings (the same range of harmonics is pretty easily accessible at various locations on the G string between the second and fourth frets...try it...there are like six or eight different harmonic tones in the space of three frets). He does it that high up because it looks like he's really doing something awesome to make his guitar "scream".
It's still a killer effect, easy or not...
It's all about the showmanship, man.

I haven't heard that song in ages. Hot-damn, that's a beautiful piece of guitar playing.
