vai and satchs style
i've noticed that when vai and satch do a run they play the third on the same sting as the root for example
d----------------------6--7
a-------------5--7--9-----
E---5--7--9---------------
and so on vs
d-----------------4--6--7
a--------4--5--7---------
E---5--7-----------------
which is what i find everywhere
i just thought i would post this i mean its vai and satch if they do it it cant be wrong

Re: vai and satchs style
see i was self taught so all the books i ever got never showed the three note scales i guess cause its eaiser to move from the two note major scale to the two note minor scale seeing as all you do is lower the note on the a string with your index vs using your third finger on the three note scale
and now that ive typed this i just thought "man i sound like an idoit" but im going to post it anyway

Re: vai and satchs style
I guess it also helps that with 3 notes per string scales you know which pick direction you'll be facing on the next string at fast speeds, it'll always be the opposite of the last run.

3 notes per string is like a standard playing nowaday, the newer breed of players like rusty, mattias etc uses 4 notes per string, but damn I still need to work on the 3 notes per string ...

I use 3 note scales too. Find it easier for when my little finger will no co-operate with what I want to hear.

yeah, 4 NPS is rediculous, sounds cool though...Stephan Forte has a few 6 NPS licks that are crazy too...
