Vai's "The Black Forest" - what main effect is he using?

Simple enough question. It sounds like a harmonizing effect for the main melody. Wonderful and haunting. Does anybody know if he used the G-Force or the Whammy pedal to achieve this?

Vai's "The Black Forest"

I kept thinking it was a flange and something else. Maybe its becuase the flange is set fo such a drastic sweep, it's making my ears hear something that isn't there. I'll give it a shot. Thanks!

This isn't really related to how Vai got the sound but I must say that I just downlaoded this song and who! it is one of my favorites now. Cool Tune. I think it is a flange too.
