Want to learn a Vai song. Can you reccomend me a good one.
Ok I want to learn a Vai song but I want to learn one that is almost straight guitar with band. I want to try to avoid the songs he wrote that has 4 guitar parts and backwards guitars and no weird idosyncratics that are impossible to play unless your Vai. Like the pulling of the string off the fretboard to get the note to go up 21 frets or something. So throw out some suggestions. Thanks!

Alien Love Secrets stuff is as straight as you're gonna get with Mr. Vai, I'd suggest trying there! Die to Live isn't terrible (though certainly not easy!), and most of those tunes are 1 or 2 tracks of guitar. Good luck on whatever you decide!

Some of the songs on the 7th song are good...they're the typical single lead guitar part to a constant rhythm.

I just recorded a nice little lead track, IMHO, on the Crying Machine. Fairly simple but nice.

"viv woman" from flex-able.
it's a great great riff, it's a power trio song throughout, it rocks the most, and it's not too difficult.

My vote goes to crying machine.
great tune, inspiring, nice melody, sounds wicked even though he's not playing anything too tough.
Not weird stuff, well, maybe one whammy bar dip that will be tricky at first, but that's it.

Warm Regards (I think) is the last song on
Fire Garden
... fairly easy and slow to start off with.

true... die to live is a 'relatively' easy one to start with.
ive never attempted that run at the end of liberty.. i feel the challenge now... lol ... might give it a go tomorrow if I can find my paw book. Im sure ill give up when i see it though.

Hand on Heart is a nice one - beautiful melody and not too tough for the most part, apart from that fairly insane tapping lick in the solo.
Otherwise I'd say Crying Machine. Again, nice melody and only one tricky bit.
Sisters isn't good for me - take away my pick and I go all to pieces.
